چکیده

In order to further improve bandwidth efficiency, some of the mobile radio systems use special kind of frequency modulation schemes called continuous phase modulation-CPM. The schemes are particularly attractive because they have constant envelope and excellent spectral characteristics resulting from phase changes in a continuous manner. The complex envelope of any CPM signal can be represented as:) () (2) (t j d nT h x k j Ae Ae t v t n f n f Φ − = ∫ ∑ = ∞ − τ τ π (1) where, A is the amplitude, kf is the peak frequency deviation, hf(t) is the frequency shaping pulse, {xn} where xn∈{±1, ±3, ..., ±(M-1)} is the source symbol sequence, M is the symbol alphabet size, and T is the symbol duration. The phase term Φ(t) for the time interval kT ≤ t ≤ (k+1)T can be rewritten as, ∫ ∑ ∫ ∞ − − −∞ = − + − = Φ kT K n t kT f k f f n f d kT h x k d nT h x k t 1) (2) (2) (τ τ π τ τ π (2) where the first term corresponds to accumulated phase and the second term to current phase from the beginning of current symbol period up to time t. Sometimes, Φ(t) is called excess phase. The phase is therefore continuous as long as the frequency shaping function hf(t) does not contain impulses.

Low-Complexity Generic Receiver for Burst-Mode Continuous Phase Modulation

This paper describes a low-complexity generic receiver for burst-mode continuous phase modulation. The burst consists of a continuous wave (CW) signal followed by a pseudorandom sequence and a data sequence modulated by continuous phase modulation (CPM). Joint coarse carrier frequency, phase and time synchronization is performed on the CW signal. Fine time synchronization is performed on the ps...

Continuous Phase Modulation of Spectrally Efficient FQPSK Signals

A continuous phase modulation (CPM) implementation alternative of a recently standardized class of Feher-patented quadrature phase-shift keying (FQPSK-B) modulation is proposed. It is based on the fact that FQPSK-B signal has quasi-constant amplitude and continuous phase characteristics, allowing CPM interpretation. Based on this, we derive the modulation index, premodulation filter and alterna...

Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) Revisited: Using Time-Limited Phase Shaping Pulses

Conventional CPM signals employ information sequence with time-unlimited phase shaping pulse (PSP) to achieve power and bandwidth efficient transmission. On the contrary, information sequence using time-limited PSP was believed to produce power-wasting data-independent discrete spectral lines in CPM spectra, and was suggested to be avoided. In this paper, we revisit this problem and adopt the t...

Performance Enhancement of Continuous-Phase Modulation Based OFDM Systems Using Chaotic Interleaving

In this paper, we propose a chaotic interleaving scheme for continuous-phase modulation based orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CPM-OFDM) systems. The idea of chaotic maps randomization (CMR) is exploited in this scheme. CMR generates permuted sequences from the sequences to be transmitted with lower correlation among their samples, and hence a better bit error rate (BER) performance ...

Constrained Envelope Continuous Phase Modulation

We develop a coded modulation system with continuous phase and a small controlled envelope variation. We call the system Constrained Envelope Continuous Phase Modulation (ceCPM) and show that, there is a gain for ceCPM over CPM under the same spectrum constraint. With normalized amplitude varying in the interval {1±0.2} the gain for ceCPM is up to 2.5 dB over CPM at symbol error probability 10....

A Continuous Phase Modulation Scheme for Telemedicine Systems

We study the use a continuous phase modulation (CPM) system providing mobile data service with QPSK transmission for a telemedicine system. The results of using an I/Q modulation and CPM schemes with their BER performance are compared. The system provides direct symbol-by-symbol detection with no special decoding mechanism necessary. We have compared the performance in bit error rate (BER) with...
